What drains a battery overnight
A healthy battery holds its charge for weeks, so when one goes flat in hours something is quietly staying awake. The usual suspects are these.

How we track it down
We measure the current draw with high end multimeters and clamp meters, then work through the circuits until the culprit shows itself. A couple of recent examples give the idea. A BMW 5 Series (F10) from Harpenden was flat every morning; the cause was a Bluetooth module staying active with the ignition off, which we replaced and coded out. A Ford Kuga from Dunstable had a mystery drain that turned out to be a stuck relay in the electric tailgate control unit, cured by replacing the relay and rechecking the draw. Alongside the diagnosis we carry out terminal, wiring and earth repairs, charging system tests and module programming, and fit OEM batteries where one is genuinely needed.
Battery drain questions we hear a lot
How do I know I have a parasitic drain? If the battery keeps dying within a day or two of parking and it is not old or faulty, a parasitic draw is likely. We test the current draw and pinpoint it.
How long does the diagnosis take? Most take one to three hours; a truly intermittent fault may need the car overnight for monitoring.
Can a faulty alternator cause a drain? Yes, a failed alternator diode can pull power with the engine off, so we always test the alternator as part of the job.
Do you offer same day repairs? Often, yes, especially for battery or wiring faults, as we stock the common parts.
