Conducted by DVSA-approved examiners, the test ensures your vehicle is roadworthy by checking components such as lights, tyres, brakes, seatbelts, and emissions. Note, an MOT is not the same as a service—it only evaluates the condition of the vehicle on the day of the test. Passing provides a certificate, while any advisory or major faults will be highlighted.
MOTs typically take 45 minutes to 1 hour. At DAS, we provide a comfortable waiting area with free Wi-Fi for your convenience.
Vehicles older than 3 years require annual MOT tests. Some vehicles, such as ambulances or taxis, require tests after 1 year.
MOT certificates are valid for 12 months from the expiry date of your previous certificate, ensuring no overlap or loss of validity.
You can book an MOT up to 28 days before the expiry date of your current certificate. The new certificate will extend from the expiry date, effectively giving you up to 13 months of coverage.
Electric and hybrid vehicles also require MOT tests after 3 years. The primary difference is that they do not undergo emissions testing. DAS is fully equipped to perform MOTs for hybrid cars.
Driving without a valid MOT is illegal and can result in a fine of up to £1,000. If your vehicle fails and is deemed 'dangerous,' the penalty increases to £2,500 and 3 points on your licence.
Driving without an MOT may invalidate your insurance, especially in accidents involving injury. Authorities can remotely check your MOT status using your number plate, so it's important to stay compliant.
