An MOT is a legal, annual vehicle inspection required in the UK for vehicles over 3 years old (or 1 year for specific types like taxis).

Conducted by DVSA-approved examiners, the test ensures your vehicle is roadworthy by checking components such as lights, tyres, brakes, seatbelts, and emissions. Note, an MOT is not the same as a service—it only evaluates the condition of the vehicle on the day of the test. Passing provides a certificate, while any advisory or major faults will be highlighted.

How long does an MOT take?

MOTs typically take 45 minutes to 1 hour. At DAS, we provide a comfortable waiting area with free Wi-Fi for your convenience.

How often do you need an MOT?

Vehicles older than 3 years require annual MOT tests. Some vehicles, such as ambulances or taxis, require tests after 1 year.

How long is an MOT certificate valid for?

MOT certificates are valid for 12 months from the expiry date of your previous certificate, ensuring no overlap or loss of validity.

How early can you do an MOT?

You can book an MOT up to 28 days before the expiry date of your current certificate. The new certificate will extend from the expiry date, effectively giving you up to 13 months of coverage.

Do I Need an MOT?

An MOT is a legal requirement to drive on public roads in the UK. Without one, you risk penalties, including fines and points on your licence. Ensure your MOT is up to date to avoid legal and safety issues.

MOTS FOR ELECRIC VEHICLES

Electric and hybrid vehicles also require MOT tests after 3 years. The primary difference is that they do not undergo emissions testing. DAS is fully equipped to perform MOTs for hybrid cars.

Just bring your vehicle! We’ll access your details on the DVSA database, and if renewing early, you’ll retain your original expiry date.
